Re: Ownership and Care of Animals in the Borough of Bedford

Persons residing in or visiting the Borough of Bedford are reminded of the following, as it pertains to the ownership and care of animals:

• No person having ownership or custody of an animal shall allow the animal to defecate on public property, including but not limited to, cemeteries, parks, sidewalks, and streets, unless the person having ownership or custody of the animal immediately removes such feces and places it in a non-leaking air-tight container for eventual disposal in a trash or litter receptacle. The provisions contained in this bullet do not apply to a guide dog accompanying any blind person or a dog used to assist any other physically handicapped person.

• Borough of Bedford property owners and/or tenants are requested to sweep this past winter’s deposit of anti-skid stones from the sidewalks onto the edge of the streets for eventual removal by the Borough’s street sweeper. Limbs, sticks, planting bed, garden, and yard waste should NOT be deposited onto or along the streets as these materials plug up the street sweeper’s intake hose as well as the stormwater system’s catchbasin grates.

• The Borough of Bedford is currently conducting daylight-hours street sweeping in areas located outside the Central Business District. Property owners are requested to periodically reposition vehicles that are being parked on the streets so that all areas can be swept. • Weather permitting, beginning at 12:00 midnight, Thursday, May 3rd and continuing through 8:00 a.m., Friday, May 4th, the Borough of Bedford will begin the weekly Thursday night – Friday morning sweeping schedule that will be maintained, weather permitting, throughout the summer.
Motorists are requested not to park vehicles on the streets between the aforementioned times. Work will begin in the center of town and progress outward into the residential areas.

On Saturday, May 5th the following streets will be closed to all traffic to accommodate Downtown Bedford Inc.’s “Bedford Car Show” event:

• Juliana Street from Central Way to John Street – 9:00 a.m. thru 6:00 p.m.
• Penn Street from Richard Street to the end of the Courthouse (Lafayette Avenue),
leaving the alley and parking garage open – 9:00 a.m. thru 6:00 p.m.

Vehicle operators should take extra precaution when driving in/near the aforementioned area.

Weather permitting; the Bedford Borough Water Authority will be using fire hydrants to flush its water distribution system in the following areas between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 1st through Friday, May 4, 2018:

• Areas along and adjacent to Route 30 west of Bedford to Friendship Village.
• Areas along and in the vicinity of Pitt, Penn, and John Streets.

Most customers will experience sporadic periods of discolored water and those located in higher elevations may also notice temporary reductions in pressure.
The public will be advised, through media releases, of any alterations in the flushing schedule.
